"I feel so fortunate to love what I do for a living. Often, patients come into the office in pain and are usually very nervous about the prospect of having a root canal. I considers it a privilege to have the ability to gently relieve pain, provide comfort, and allay my patients’ fears." - Maryam Monfared
Providing great care with compassion and integrity is of paramount importance to Dr. Monfared and her dedicated team. They are grateful that, for more than 20 years, so many have repeatedly entrusted them with their care while also referring family and friends.
Education and Continuing Education
Dr. Monfared became interested in dentistry after spending a lot of time in a dental chair as a child, and was encouraged by her family dentist—one of the first female dentists in Long Island, New York, where Dr. Monfared grew up. She loved the idea of being connected to the community in a way that allowed her to make an impact on people’s health, happiness, and well-being.

Outside the Office
Dr. Monfared was lucky enough to meet her husband and partner, Dr. Michael Colasanto, in dental school at VCU/MCV. They have practiced together for more than 20 years. Their two active boys are their pride and joy, keeping the family busy with their many activities. Drs. Monfared and Colasanto do find the time to attend music and theater performances and spend time with their extended family whenever possible. They also volunteer as a family in local nursing homes and in community cleanups of local parks.
